The clip features the climax of a friendly game that has been battled out at Hamburg, Germany, on February 28th, 2003, between Mr. René Gralla, herewith a short biography: http://www.chessgames.com/player/rene... , who has been in charge of Red Army, and the leader of Black Army, Mr. Phan Thang who has been born in Quang Nam/Vietnam and who actually lives in Hamburg, Germany. That thrilling encounter between Mr. René Gralla (Red) and Mr. Phan Thang (Black) has been played at a board with traditional pieces, but that very clip here has transformed the final phase of the historic game into the optics of battle chess on a tabletop. You can see the marshy river zone that marks the frontier between Red Kingdom and Black Kingdom, and you can see the Red fortress in the foreground and the Black fortress in the background. A squadron of Red Army attacks the right wing of Mr. Phan Thang's HQ, whilst a battery of Red Army has occupied a central position thus virtually cornering Black General in his fortress. A Task Force of Black Army - artillery plus cavalry - races against the right wing of Red Army, and it succeeds in destroying one Red Chariot, thus equalizing material disadvantage and threatening immediate checkmate. But just by blowing up Red Chariot, Black Task Force loses the momentum, and that turns out to be decisive. Now Red has the momentum: Black Commander-in-chief will be trapped in the right wing of his fortress, thus enabling Red Task Force to execute the dreaded CANNON-HORSE-PALCORNER CHECKMATE. That foregoing encounter between Mr. René Gralla (Red) and Mr. Phan Thang (Black) has been discussed in the article "IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF EPAMEINONDAS" that can be downloaded here: http://24.212.173.247/xq/articles/ar2... . You will find the game by scrolling down to the subheading "Echoes of Epameinondas" and further scrolling down to the photo as follows that depicts Mr. Quang Nguyen-Chi, a renowned Vietnamese doctor at Hamburg, Germany, and a mentor of XiangQi: http://shaolinchess.de/svalban0.gif
